Skopje/Rome, 23 May 2024 (MIA) - The Republic of North Macedonia needs to show it really wants to be a part of a united Europe by fulfilling all the requirements set by the EU, as was the case for any other member state, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev told media in Rome, according to BTA.
“My message to the President of the Republic of North Macedonia is that Bulgaria expects a change of rhetoric as soon as possible and for the hate speech to finally end,” Radev said.
According to Radev, due to the busy schedule the Bulgarian delegation was unable to meet with the delegation of the Republic of North Macedonia in Rome, headed by President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova.
“It is a positive sign that the President of the Republic of North Macedonia demonstrated a willingness to meet,” Radev said, asked if a meeting has been requested.
“I expect,” stressed Radev, “that such a meeting will happen soon.”
“I believe that North Macedonia’s desire for dialogue is a positive sign. Only through dialogue can we strengthen our mutual trust, solve all disputes and open North Macedonia’s door to the EU. I urge and hope for such a meeting to happen soon,” Radev said.
President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova is heading a state-church delegation to Rome and Vatican for the observance of May 24 in her first official foreign trip after her victory at the May 8 presidential elections.
