North Macedonia will not participate in Eurovision Song Contest 2024

Skopje, 6 December 2023 (MIA) - North Macedonia will not be competing in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö, Sweden, for the second year in a row.

Public broadcasters from 37 countries will participate in the world's largest live music event that will be held in Malmö, Sweden next May.

"We’re deeply sad to confirm that North Macedonia will be absent from the Eurovision Song Contest for the second year in a row. Best of luck to all 37 competing countries and we’re looking forward to the big show in Malmö," the Macedonian Eurovision fan site posted Tuesday on the X platform (formerly Twitter).

Albania, Croatia, Greece, Serbia and Slovenia are the countries in the region which have confirmed participation.

North Macedonia neither participated in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest that was held in Liverpool. The Macedonian broadcaster MRT said at the time it was "due to the economic and energy crisis and high costs".

The country's last Eurovision performance was in 2022. ssh/nn/
