North Macedonia to help Azerbaijan in land consolidation process: ministry

Skopje, 9 November 2023 (MIA) - Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy Ljupcho Nikolovski, representatives state institutions in the agriculture sector, and Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) presented North Macedonia's positive experiences in the consolidation process for agricultural land before a delegation from the Republic of Azerbaijan on Thursday.

The delegation, led by Assistant to the President and Head of the Department of Economic Issues and Innovative Development Policy of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, Shahmar Movsumov, and Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov, is on an official visit to North Macedonia in order to learn from our positive experience and the benefits of land consolidation, the Agriculture Ministry said in a press release.

North Macedonia is a leading country in the implementation of land consolidation, which begun in 2017 with the implementation of the MAINLAND project worth EUR 2.8 million, and support from EU and FAO. The project has been 99 percent successfully realized with consolidated land in nine areas: Konche, Egri, Logovardi, Optichari, Trn, Dabjani, Kozhle, Sokolarci and Spanchevo. EU and FAO support has ensured the launch in the development of a new national consolidation strategy 2022-2030, which reflects our commitment to reduce land fragmentation and small agricultural holdings, reads the press release.

Nikolovski expressed his satisfaction that North Macedonia will be used as an example in Azerbaijan’s land consolidation process. ssh/ik/
