North Macedonia ranks 108th among world’s strongest armies in Global Firepower index

Skopje, 9 January 2023 (MIA) – North Macedonia is ranked 108th among 145 countries considered in the annual Global Firepower (GFP) 2023 Military Strength Ranking.

Compared to last year, Macedonian army improved its position by 27 places on the list of military capability and global military powers.

The finalized Global Firepower ranking utilizes over 60 individual factors to determine a given nation’s PowerIndex (‘PwrIndx’) score with categories ranging from quantity of military units and financial standing to logistical capabilities and geography.

From the neighborhood, Greece is ranked 30th on the list of military capability and military power, while Serbia is ranked 58th, Bulgaria 59th Croatia 69th, Slovenia 86th, while Montenegro is ranked 128th, Bosnia and Herzegovina 133rd and Kosovo is 134th.

According to the ranking, the world’s top five strongest armies, including to the ranking, are the US, Russia, China, India and the UK.

“Our unique, in-house formula allows for smaller, more technologically-advanced, nations to compete with larger, lesser-developed powers and special modifiers, in the form of bonuses and penalties, are applied to further refine the list which is compiled annually. Color arrows (Green, Gray, and Red) indicate the year-over-year trend comparison (Up, Stable, Down). Trends do not necessarily indicate a declining power as changes to the GFP formula can also account for this,” Global Firepower website said.

For the 2023 GFP review, a total of 145 world powers are considered.
