North Macedonia, Netherlands sign cooperation memo on strengthening of public finances
Skopje, 15 September 2022 (MIA) – Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi and Netherlands counterpart Sigrid Kaag signed Thursday a memorandum on bilateral cooperation in the field of public finances 2023-2026, at the sidelines of the annual meetings of the Dutch Constituency of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Sarajevo. The memorandum aims at further transfer of experiences and practices between the two ministries in building a contemporary system of public finances. The multiannual successful cooperation between the two ministries has produced a large number of programmes and projects on enhancement of various functions of the public finances and their performances. The new memo reaffirms the future path for financial and technical support by the Dutch Ministry of Finance in building our capacities, the Ministry of Finance said in a press release. One of the most significant projects until now is the twinning project for strengthening of budget planning, realization and internal control., including technical support for implementation of the new systemic law on budgets. Future cooperation will focus on public internal financial control, financial education and inclusion, improvement of tax administration efficiency and protection from tax evasion. The meeting also reviewed the country’s Euro-integration progress, economic developments in North Macedonia and Europe, as well as projections and measures for management of current challenges, reads the press release.
