Skopje, 21 November 2023 (MIA) - The Macedonian football team played a 1-1 draw against England Monday night in the final round of the C-group qualifiers for the 2024 European Championship.
Macedonian football team went ahead with Enis Bardhi scoring in the 41st minute after a missed penalty, but he got the rebound, putting it into the net past the opposing goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
The English team started strongly in the second half, and after just a few minutes, they scored a goal through Jack Grealish. However, VAR intervened, and an offside was ruled.
In the 59th minute, the score was levelled at 1-1 when Jani Atanasov scored an own goal from a corner by the visiting team. This result held until the end of the match, concluding to the satisfaction of the 30,000-strong crowd present at the National Arena.
For the Macedonian national team, this marks the third draw in their sixth face-off with the rival England and the first drawn result on home ground.
North Macedonia concluded the qualifications with eight points, securing the fourth spot. England finished first with 20 points, ensuring their participation in the European Championship in Germany next year.
