North Macedonia becomes a member of the Union for the Mediterranean
Skopje, 24 November 2022 (MIA) – Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani is to attend ceremony marking North Macedonia’s accession to the Union for the Mediterranean, which will be held within 7th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) taking place Thursday in Barcelona.
FM Osmani is to attend the forum that will gather foreign affairs ministers from 42 member states at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, José Manuel Albares, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, Ayman Safadi and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell.
After the country's admission to the Union for the Mediterranean, Osmani will participate in the work of the meeting as a representative of an equal member of the organization.
On the sidelines of the forum, Osmani is scheduled to meet with Spanish Foreign Minister Albares, as well as to hold bilateral meetings with other counterparts from the UfM member states.
The Union for the Mediterranean is an intergovernmental organization of 42 member states from Europe and the Mediterranean Basin – the 27 EU member states and 15 Mediterranean partner countries from North Africa, Western Asia and Southern Europe. Founded in 2008 in Paris, it aims at reinforcing the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (Euromed).
