Skopje, 26 January 2023 (MIA) – Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said Thursday that subsidies to help mitigate the economic and energy crisis, for which EUR 255 million are allocated from the Budget, will continue in 2023. The Government has promised no price shocks for the citizens for the duration of the year.
“I have hired advisors with great economic and energy experience and we’ve worked day and night to confirm that it is possible to deliver what has been promised to the citizens in terms of no price shocks for them, nor the companies,” PM Kovachevski told a Q&A session in Parliament.
He referred to the two anti-crisis packages worth EUR 760 million, the biggest ones in the region according to the World Bank, and he said that the prices of bread, milk and cooking oil in stores have been going down.
In terms of the subsidies written on electricity bills, the PM said they are an added motivation for the citizens to keep saving power.
“I’m proud to say that we have had electricity savings of 15% in 2022, in comparison to the previous year,” Kovachevski said. dk/ik/
