No price caps, profit margin to be limited instead: Economy Minister

Skopje, 18 September 2024 (MIA) - There won’t be price caps, instead the gross profit margin of hundreds of basic food products will be limited to 10 percent, Minister of Economy and Labor Besar Durmishi told journalists Wednesday regarding the Government’s autumn market basket measure.

Durmishi echoed Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski’s statement, noting that the measure is expected to be discussed at the next session of Government. Bread, baked goods, dairy products, fruits and vegetables are expected to be among the products that will be a part of the measure.

“This will be a short-term measure, and it will remain in place for one month. The practice of its adoption will continue for the Christmas holidays and all other holidays that will follow,” the Minister said.

The Minister added that the law banning unfair trade practices is expected to enter into force by the end of September, which, he said, is expected to further reduce the prices of products.
