Skopje, 16 August 2023 (MIA) – The U.S. universities in Harvard, Stanford and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have retained their positions at the top in the 2023 Shanghai Ranking of the world’s best universities, published on Tuesday. Once again, there were no Macedonian universities among the top 1000.

The University of Cambridge is fourth on the list, followed by the University of California, Berkeley in fifth and Princeton University in sixth. The University of Oxford holds the seventh spot on the ranking, while Columbia University is eighth. The California Institute of Technology and the University of Chicago hold the ninth and tenth spot, rounding off the world’s top 10 universities. 

When it comes to universities from the region, the University of Belgrade has risen through the rankings and is currently in the 301-400 range of universities, after being in the 401-500 range in last year’s ranking. 

The University of Zagreb has retained last year’s ranking and is situated in the 401-500 range, while the University of Ljubljana is in the 601-700 range. Four Greek universities ended up on the list. No Bulgarian or Albanian university made the list.
