Skopje, 2 June 2022 (MIA) — No document exists that accepts the demands of only one side, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski told Kanal 5’s "Only Interview" show when asked how close North Macedonia was to finding a mutually acceptable solution with Bulgaria in light of the efforts of French President Emanuel Macron to speed up the EU enlargement process during the French presidency. “The negotiating framework has also been mentioned, but the negotiating framework is a multilateral document that has to be approved by all EU member states and which, ultimately, we too need to approve,” Prime Minister Kovachevski said. He added that “most European countries do not allow any ‘bilateralization’ of the framework,” given that the EU negotiations framework aims to align the country with the bloc during its integration into the EU. Regarding the statement of President Macron and the President of the European Council Charles Michel regarding the creation of a European political community that would include all European countries that are not EU members, Kovachevski said the proposal was more applicable to countries that were yet to meet the criteria for starting the EU accession process, such as Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia. “Our own process was defined by the very proposal by President Macron for EU accession through clustering of chapters. Just to illustrate, we already have 45 percent of our legislation aligned with the EU,” North Macedonia’s PM noted. He highlighted that the country was more aligned with the EU acquis than some other countries were even after negotiating for a decade. “We have met all the conditions regarding the start of negotiations,” Kovachevski said. “We have done our part.” He stressed that North Macedonia’s positions were agreed in the declaration adopted in Parliament by all political parties and these were the positions the Government adhered to during the talks with Bulgaria. “Our joint solutions, as I have said many times, should be based on European values, and on respecting the dignity of both countries’ citizens. Only then will we have a foundation for building good neighborly relations and a quick integration into the EU,” the PM said. mr/
