Nikolovski: Creating modern road connection in northeastern part of Corridor 8
Skopje, 29 December 2021 (MIA) – Over 95 percent of the second phase of the Kumanovo - Stracin highway have been completed. Modernization of this highway as part of Corridor 8 is of particular importance for the whole country, said Deputy PM for the fight against corruption and crime, sustainable development and human resources, Ljupcho Nikolovski, who oversaw on Wednesday the completion of construction works on the highway alongside Minister of Transport and Communications Blagoj Bochvarski and director of the Public Enterprise for State Roads Ejup Rustemi.
The total amount of the investment in the second phase, which included rehabilitation of 16.6 km from the village of Vojnik to Stracin, is close to EUR 7.2 million.
“This is an important arterial road that connects local and regional roads with the main corridors, both for the citizens and for businesses, enabling easy and faster transport of people and products. We invested EUR 80 million in road infrastructure to medornize key roads in this region, the part of Corridor 8,” Deputy PM Nikolovski said.
Construction works within the first phase from Kumanovo to the village of Vojnik, in the length of 15.2 km, worth EUR 5.4 million. Rehabilitation in this phase ends in June next year.
Minister Bochvarski underlined that in the past year an entire construction operation has been engaged in the implementation of capital projects in transport.
With the rehabilitation of this section and construction of express road to Kriva Palanka, we’re creating a modern road connection in the northeast part of Corridor 8. Totalk investments in this region for the construction and rehabilitation of roads amount to over EUR 80 million. Additionally, I’d like to emphasize that we expect realization of capital investments in the Ministry of Transport and Communications to exceed 90 percent,” said Bochvarski.
Director of the public enterprise for state roads, Rustemi, mentioned that last year saw the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the 21 km road from Rankovce to Kriva Palanka, and the Corridor 8 is being completed with other rehabilitation and construction works already under way in this region.
