Skopje, 18 May 2023 (MIA) - Deputy Finance Minister Filip Nikoloski is participating in the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Annual Meeting and Business Forum in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
In his address, Nikoloski pointed out that North Macedonia's Government continuously implements structural reforms and policies, aimed at maintaining growth in times of crisis, but also its acceleration in the medium and long-term.
"At a time when our economy, as well as other economies worldwide, face great challenges, we remain fully committed to encouraging investments in the areas of sustainable development, such as green transition, digitalization, infrastructure projects, human capital, etc. but EBRD's support is very important in achieving those priorities, and we expect it to continue in the coming period," said Nikoloski.
At this moment, the global economy needs sound domestic policies combined with firm commitment to international cooperation in order to create a more resilient global economy with sustainable and inclusive growth, the Deputy Minister added.
Nikoloski stressed the importance of continuing the support that EBRD provides to the most affected countries, at a time when the world is faced with challenges that arose with Covid-19, the energy and price crisis, the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the gradual expansion in sub-Saharan countries.
Since 1993, with a financial support of EUR 2.5 billion in 173 projects, EBRD has been contributing to increasing the competitiveness of the Macedonian economy, connection with the region and green transition.
EBRD is hosting its 32nd Annual Meeting and Business Forum in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, under the banner of “Investing in Resilience”. The event will be the largest of its kind in Central Asia and represents a return to the region for the first time since 2011. The three-day meeting, which opens on 16 May, will bring together government officials, financial and corporate executives, entrepreneurs, civil society and media from all over the world.
As part of the Annual Meetings, Deputy Minister Nikoloski will meet with Caspar Veldkamp, EBRD director for the Netherlands, China, Mongolia, North Macedonia and Armenia. ssh/nn/
