Nikoloski and Lázár discuss Corridor X high-speed rail, Skopje-Budapest connection

Skopje, 27 September 2024 (MIA) - The construction of a Corridor X high-speed rail and a quality connection between Skopje and Budapest was the main topic discussed at the meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski and Hungary’s Minister of Construction and Investments, János Lázár, at a meeting Friday in Ohrid.

“This project will bring great benefits to all countries in the region, it will strengthen economic development and the cooperation between countries and will enable a safe and fast transport of passengers and products. We are taking the last step for Macedonia to join the advanced technological achievements in rail in the region and that is why this project is a priority, not only for us but for all countries alongside Corridor X,” Nikoloski said.

According to the Ministry of Transport, at the meeting Nikoloski highlighted the importance of the support of the countries from the European Union for the realization of the project, since, he stressed, “high-speed rail is a condition for economic development and better communication for all countries in the region”.

The meeting discussed experiences and practices applied in both countries in various segments of transport, construction and investments.

“The Minister also spoke about the accelerated activates for the realization of capital projects in Macedonia. He voiced gratitude for the economic assistance provided by Hungary, stressing that funds from the loan are already directed at the municipalities for the realization of infrastructure projects,” the Ministry of Transport said.

“Our bilateral relations with Hungary are at an excellent level. Hungary as a part of the European Union is a strategic partner of Macedonia and a great supporter in the realization of the country’s strategic goals, both in terms of the political and economic development policies,” Nikoloski stressed after the meeting.

The two ministers agreed to intensify cooperation, and the promotion of policies related to regional connectivity.
