New MPs' terms verified, motion on amending energy law forwarded to committees

Skopje, 25 June 2024 (MIA) - Parliament forwarded Tuesday the motion on changes to the energy law, aimed at reducing the electricity price as of July 1. It will be debated later in the day by the Committee for Economic Affairs, Labor and Energy Policy and the Legislatice Committee.

The resumption of the eight parliamentary session, which should include a vote on the legislation, will be additionally scheduled, said Parliament's Vice President Vesna Bendevska.

The bill has been proposed in a fact-tracked procedure.

Under the bill, an increase in the electricity price should be prevented in the next six months and electricity price to drop for households and the industry as of January 2025. The electricity price will not rise for consumers in the first and second tariff group, whereas it is envisaged to rise slightly, up to 2 percent, for consumers in the third and fourth tariff group.

Also, MPs at today's session verified the terms of Dragan Nedeljkovikj, Velika Stojkova Serafimovska, Sergej Popov, Emilija Angelova, Vesna Gjorgjieva and Dijana Ilievska from the VMRO-DPMNE-led coalition and that of Feride Hahxiu and Kaltrina Beqiri from the Worth It coalition.

The new MPs were verified after PM Hristijan Mickoski and the ministers Gordana Dimitrieska Kochoska, Ljupcho Dimoski, Izet Mexhiti, Vlado Misajlovski, Ivan Stoilkovikj, Aleksandar Nikolovski and Fatmir Limani took office yesterday.
