New group of Peace Corps volunteers arrives in North Macedonia
Skopje, 26 September 2022 (MIA) – A new group of United States citizens serving as Peace Corps volunteers arrived in North Macedonia on Monday.
“This is the first group of volunteers in North Macedonia after the last one left in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The volunteers will again be part of the English language teaching and community development programme for a period of two years. I wish them all the best in their work,” said Peace Corps Country Director Deborah Conner, who welcomed the volunteers at the Skopje International Airport.
This is the 25th group of volunteers living and working in cities and villages across North Macedonia. Volunteers will learn the local languages and acquaint with the Macedonian culture starting in December 2022.
Peace Corps is a U.S. government program established in 1961, which trains and deploys volunteers to provide international development assistance. The Peace Corps in North Macedonia implements its programmes in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Local Self-Government and Ministry of Labor and Social Policy.
More than 800 U.S. citizens have served in North Macedonia as part of the Peace Corps since 1996.
