Skopje, 24 June 2024 (MIA) – Taking over the duties from outgoing Education Minister Jeton Shaqiri, the new Education Minister Vesna Janevska announced modernization of education and stimulation of scientific researches by replacing improvisation and ad hoc decisions with inclusive and long-term policies created by all involved parties. 

After the handover, Janevska said the process of comprehensive reconstruction of all levels of formal as well as informal education starts soon and the educational system will be synchronized with the needs of the labor market so as to prevent the young from seeking jobs abroad, said the Education Ministry.

“We have no intention of improvising in education. We have an initial, solid plan for change, created on the basis of thorough analysis of the current state of play in consultation with experts and the general population. From all stakeholders in the educational system, I expect support for the processes envisaging major changes. In the meantime, every proposal will be welcome,” said Janevska.  

Thanking the prime minister for being entrusted with helming the education ministry, Janevska said it is crucial for the future of the country.

“We all agree that changes are necessary and it is important we maintain the unity and energy in the period to come because a lot of hard work is ahead. We have to keep the young people here, where they belong. Quality education and the opportunities for using one’s potential in their own country is the biggest motive to stay,” the new minister said adding that scholars will not be forgotten because the academic community is the key pillar our national prosperity will be based on. 

Also, Janevska said that inclusive education will be also one of the main priorities.

Born in 1958 in Skopje, Janevska, who is a pathology specialist, teaches at the Institute of Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje.
