New Chief Prosecutor must regain trust, people thirsty for justice: PM

Skopje, 25 December 2025 (MIA) - I expect the new Chief Prosecutor to regain the trust in the institution, to work hard and proceed on hundreds of criminal charges that are currently in the institution's drawers, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Thursday.

"The procedure should not last for more than 1,5-2 months until the election of a new Chief Prosecutor is on the Parliament's agenda. I expect the new Chief Prosecutor to work hard. In informal discussions with colleagues in the Government and institutions, it was discouraging to hear that institutions file hundreds of criminal charges but the Public Prosecutor's Office does nothing. We have been raised properly and do not make spectacles by breaking into homes in front of the suspects' children or film the raids as it was done before, but this doesn't mean that the charges are not there," PM Mickoski told a Q&A session.

He said the people are thirsty and hungry for justice, which is what the reforms are all about.

"I hope that whoever takes the office of Chief Prosecutor will work on this in detail, because this is what the reforms are all about, not the higher wages of prosecutors and judges. The people are thirsty and hungry for justice and want to see a real fight," noted Mickoski.

According to him, the basic task of the Chief Prosecutor is to restore the trust in the institution and courts, because no success is possible unless there is rule of law.

"This leads to investments, a strong economy, more jobs, good wages etc. This is very important for the coming period, since a lot of laws within the Reform Agenda will be discussed by lawmakers, such as the law on the judicial council, the council of public prosecutors, the PPO and judicial service," said Mickoski.
