Netherlands sending sniper rifles, other military aid to Ukraine
Amsterdam, 18 February 2022 (dpa/MIA) - The Dutch government said on Friday that it will send Ukraine 100 sniper rifles and accompanying ammunition, plus radar equipment and mine detectors.
The military aid was being sent at the request of the Ukrainian government, Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra said.
Hoekstra said the Dutch government was still counting on Ukraine's border crisis to be resolved through diplomacy with Russia, but that it must support Ukraine's arm forces at this tense time.
"Ukraine must be able to defend itself against a possible Russian armed attack on its own soil," he said.
The military assistance also includes combat helmets and body armour. The Netherlands says it is not sending any of its soldiers to Ukraine.
