Negotiations under way with banks for €300m loan: minister

Negotiations under way with banks for €300m loan: minister

Skopje, 3 March 2026 (MIA) – A syndicated loan, approved by a group of banks, will most likely be the loan of €300 million already announced by the government. Negotiations with banks are under way and offers should be sent, said Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska adding that the most suitable loan for the budget will be taken.

The 2026 budget clearly determined the amount of the foreign loan, said Dimitrieska-Kochoska, and the Finance Ministry has been transparent from the start.

“The prime minister has been often saying how much debt we have to repay this year. If we have to repay two billion, we cannot expect that with one-billion bond we will repay it. From the start, 300 million euros were planned to be secured through lending. We are already in negotiations with the banks, we are waiting to see what offers we will finally receive because there were different maturities and different interest rates. We’ll take what will be most appropriate for the budget. According to the information I have, it is again a loan that will give us favourable conditions both in terms of maturity and in terms of interest rate. I think it will be more of a syndicated loan, it can rarely be a loan from just one bank,” Minister Dimitrieska-Kochoska told a news conference Tuesday.
