Nearly 20,000 new daily Covid-19 cases in Serbia
Belgrade, 1 February 2022 (MIA) — In the past 24 hours, Serbia logged 19,214 new Covid-19 cases and 58 deaths, MIA’s Belgrade correspondent reports. According to end-of-January figures, nearly 400,000 people are infected with the coronavirus in the country. Experts predict even more cases in the next 10 days. Since the start of the pandemic, Serbia reached its daily record of new cases on Jan. 25, 2022, when 19,901 people tested positive for the coronavirus. There are currently 3,848 people hospitalized for the illness, of whom 148 are on ventilators. So far, 13,687 people have died from Covid-19 in the country. Epidemiologist Branislav Todorovic told RTS the epidemiological situation was serious, especially for older people with underlying conditions. For them, he said, Covid-19 could be deadly. He said children, as well, were experiencing coronavirus-related complications. The peak of this wave is expected in mid-February, experts say. In Nish alone, around 800 people have been testing positive for Covid-19 every day. mr/
