National Post employees stage protest over unpaid wages

National Post employees stage protest over unpaid wages

Skopje, 18 March 2024 (MIA) – Employees of North Macedonia's Post protested on Monday over untimely payment of the February wages. The post's union leader Boro Veligdenov pointed out that the protests reflects employees' concerns over the state of affairs in the enterprise, its future, as well as job retention.

According to Veligdenov, the employer has not fulfilled the legal obligation to pay wages within the legally defined period. He said the employees fear that there will be no regular payment of wages in the coming period due to the poor financial situation of the National Post.

"The financial crisis is the result of the poor organization of operations in the Macedonian Post caused by longstanding policies of unproductive redeployment and employment, which has brought us to a state of lack of workers in the technological process, where workers are most needed," said Veligdenov.

He noted that the union organizations of the National Post have been warning the Government and the management for years about the state of affairs in the enterprise, urging for its immediate reformation and reorganization, but to no avail.

Therefore, the protestors now demand drafting a new job systematization, a new collective agreement, reorganizing the postal areas, technological modernization, as well as amending the Law on Postal Services.

"We call on the Government, which is the founder and owner of the Macedonian Post, together with the management to immediately and without delay commit to providing financial means for regular wage payments, as well as taking urgent measures to reorganize and reform the operations of the Macedonian Post," Veligdenov urged.

He stressed that the protest will continue unless the demands are met, while the trade union organizations of the National Post will launch a strike procedure in order to protect workers' rights.
