Skopje, 3 March 2026 (MIA) - The Compulsory Oil Reserves Agency is continually monitoring and maintaining the national reserves of oil and oil derivatives, ensuring secure supply, market stability and readiness for timely response in case of any disruption of imports or delivery, said the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources on Tuesday.
Although current developments in the Middle East could cause disruptions in global supply of oil derivatives, North Macedonia has secured a safe flow and import of derivatives from various sources and countries. This diversification of suppliers, combined with the strategic national reserves and the operational oil pipeline Thessaloniki-Skopje, provides a continued and stable market of oil derivatives. This is a guarantee that citizens and the economy will not feel any lack thereof, and the state remains fully committed to respond in a timely fashion if any disruption in supply were to emerge, the ministry said in a press release.
At this time, it adds, the national reserves are stable and "among the most prepared in the region regarding coverage and security of supply".
The ministry notes that the state currently has Eurodiesel reserves of nearly 139 million litres, unleaded fuel Eurosuper 95 - 31.1 million litres, extralight household oil - 10.8 million litres, and mazut M-1 HC - 5.3 million kilograms.
These national reserves are not used in regular market circumstances but exclusively through a Government decision, in case of an energy crisis or serious disruptions in supply.
At this time, the import of oil derivatives is fully liberalized and continued, without any restrictions or delays. We are closely monitoring developments on international markets, especially in the context of the current geopolitical events and the military conflict in the Middle East. In case of developments that might pose a threat to supply, the Government will respond accordingly, in the interest of the citizens and the economy, reads the press release.
