National day of mourning in Croatia on Saturday

Zagreb, 20 December 2024 (Hina/MIA) — Following the Zagreb deadly school stabbing incident in which a first-grader lost his life and five more people, including the perpetrator, were injured on Friday morning, the Croatian government declared Saturday, Dec. 21, a day of mourning.

A national day of mourning is marked in the country by the mandatory display of the Croatian flag at half-mast on all buildings that house state authorities and local and regional government agencies as well as on other public buildings.

On the day of mourning, no entertainment events may be held.

All presidential candidates on the campaign trail ahead of the country's Dec. 29 elections have expressed condolences over the tragic event and suspended their campaigning activities for the time being.

All five individuals who sustained stab wounds in the attack are being treated in Zagreb hospitals, said Health Minister Irena Hrstić.
