MRT's modernization plan passes scrutiny of parliamentary committee

Skopje, 29 December 2025 (MIA) — The Parliamentary Committee for Transport, Digital Transformation, Environment and Physical Planning has approved of the revised budget and investment plans of the Macedonian Radio and Television and will submit its decision to Parliament for further approval.

At the committee's session earlier Monday, MRT's Programming Council chair Davor Pashovski elaborated on the national broadcaster's revised financial plan, which was drafted after a budget cut of 80 million denars. The plan had been adjusted to allow for the available funding and planned expenses, he said.

Regarding investments, Pashovski said the national broadcaster needed to replace technical equipment older than 12 years to avoid interruptions in broadcasting and to comply with European standards.

"Now, with legally mandated funding, the public broadcaster finally has the chance to realize this kind of investments," Pashovski said, adding that the repurposed funds in the revised financial plan for 2026 would help continue modernizing the MRT. mr/
