"Tensions arise, disrupting good relations, and this is primarily due to radical structures that exist in both countries. However, we don't have an official state position of Bulgaria that resembles that of radical structures. There was provocation from both sides. I believe that no citizen will react if we have clubs for culture and other activities for cooperation, but naming the clubs after certain fascists, which are practically a wound and cause negative perception among Macedonian citizens, caused impatience. This country - it should be clear to all of us - was built on the basis of anti-fascism and it is normal that such actions will cause reactions. That must not be a reason not to have good relations today, because we cannot live in history," said Spasovski.   

As regards attacks on the clubs, Spasovski stressed that the state and the authorities are the ones who should do everything to ease such tensions.

 

"We showed with my colleague, Bulgaria's Minister of Interior, that intensive cooperation and sending a joint message can ease tensions. The message that my Bulgarian counterpart Ivan Demerdzhiev sent from Skopje is that he supports the Macedonian state and the Macedonian people. And that message is Bulgaria's official policy. Just as we support building the good neighborly relations. Now, are there forces that wish not only North Macedonia, but more countries in the region to abandon the European path, not to be part of the NATO Alliance and to maintain so-called frozen conflicts - yes, there are. A good geostrategic position opens many perspectives for our countries, but it also opens many risks," Spasovski said.
