Skopje, 2 December 2021 (MIA) – Country’s progress in implementing recommendations from the joint action plan in the fight against terrorism has been very positive, with significant results achieved in 2020 when a terrorist organization was busted and a large amount of weapons, ammunition and explosives was seized, Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski told ministerial forum EU-Western Balkans Ministerial Forum on Justice and Home Affairs in Slovenia’s Brdo near Kranj on Thursday. At the forum sidelines, Minister Spasovski met EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator Ilkka Salmi, European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson and European Asylum Support Office (EASO) Executive Director Nina Gregori, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release. The forum reaffirmed North Macedonia’s achievements related to 11 prison sentences in the field of combating terrorism and the country’s solidarity in protecting Afghan civilians exposed to risk, whereas Spasovski highlighted the enormous significance of the support provided by friends, institutions and EU members in meeting priorities in the field. Spasovski and Johansson focused on a range of issues, primarily on migration and fight against organized crime. Interlocutors noted the country’s significant progress in the field of justice, freedom and security, and efforts invested in meeting the required criteria, resulting in a recommendation by the European Commission for the opening of EU accession negotiations without delay. Spasovski and Gregori tackled the roadmap for cooperation with North Macedonia, which was officially approved in December 2020, and EASO has drafted a plan for its implemented that was shared this June, reads the press release.
