MoI, National commission on combat against trafficking in persons and illegal migration join UNODC campaign
Skopje, 30 July 2022 (MIA) – The Ministry of Interior and the National Commission on combat against trafficking in persons and illegal migration have joined the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) campaign “Use and Abuse of Technology” on occasion of World Day against Trafficking in Persons-July 30. Trafficking in persons is attempting to take over the cyberspace and that is why joint efforts are needed, in order to convey the message that technology can easily enable but also prevent trafficking in persons. Technology is often abused in order to facilitate trafficking in persons, control the victims, advertise services and hide proceeds from crime. Online resources can become a trap, especially when it comes to false travel arrangements, false job offers focused on vulnerable groups etc. However, their positive use can help practitioners in the combat against trafficking in persons to detect, save and support victims and fight against trafficking in persons, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release. UNODC provides advice on how to protect yourself and close ones from human trafficking at https://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/endht/internet-safety-tips.html.
