Mohammed al-Bashir to head Syria transition government until Mar 2025

Damascus, 10 December 2024 (dpa/MIA) - The former head of the government in the rebel stronghold of Idlib, in north-west Syria, announced on Tuesday he will take over the leadership of the country's transitional government following the ouster of president Bashar al-Assad.
Mohammed al-Bashir said he had been "appointed to head the transitional period until March 2025."
On Monday, Arabic media reported that al-Bashir had been tasked with forming a new Syrian government after a meeting of top officials.
Another key meeting was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in the capital Damascus on Tuesday chaired by the head of the rebel alliance, Ahmed al-Sharaa - who used to go by the name Abu Mohammed al-Joulani - as well as ministers from the previous government.
