MoH: 80% of new cases and 84% of people hospitalized with Covid-19 are unvaccinated
Skopje, 10 September 2021 (MIA) - Of the 26,053 new Covid-19 cases registered from Aug. 6 through Sept. 9 in the country, 19 percent, i.e. 5,175 people were fully vaccinated, whereas 20,878 people, i.e. 80 percent, were unvaccinated. Of those admitted to hospital, 84 percent were unvaccinated, while 16 percent had received two vaccine doses, health authorities said. “The mortality rate in unvaccinated people is drastically higher,” the Ministry of Health said in a press release. Over the past five weeks, 678 people died of Covid-19. Of them, 591 patients, i.e. 87 percent were unvaccinated, whereas 87 patients, i.e. 12 percent, were vaccinated. They had comorbidities and chronic diseases, according to the release. The infected and deceased were vaccinated with vaccines available in our country, as well as with Moderna and J&J that some of the patients received abroad. According to the Ministry, people who received two doses and have had at least 14 days pass since the second dose are considered vaccinated. Health authorities urge citizens to get vaccinated, adding that the vaccines are safe and protect from severe forms of the illness and death. Vaccination is the only way to achieve herd immunity and prevent the spread of Covid-19 mutations, the release adds.
