MoFA denies reports on new agreement, annex or additional text to existing Bulgaria treaty
Skopje, 11 January 2022 (MIA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) denied Tuesday reports over a new agreement, annex or any other additional text to the already existing Friendship Treaty with the Republic of Bulgaria.
The ministry rejects this speculation as false and counterproductive to the countries’ efforts to overcome mutual differences. Relations between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria continue to develop in accordance with the Friendship Treaty, including the undertaking of all required activities and engagements aimed at enhancing and intensifying bilateral cooperation. This includes the latest initiative of organizing the meeting of the countries’ PMs as the first step of promoting cooperation between the two new governments, thus giving projects a fresh dynamics, which is in the interest of both countries and the prospects and security of the region and Europe, the MoFA says in a press release.
It adds that the ministry should first be contacted prior to the release of such sensitive information, for the purpose of proper communication to the citizens but also support for the efforts to overcome open issues with Bulgaria.
