Mitsotakis: We need European solution to energy crisis
Athens, 1 October 2022 (MIA) — This pipeline will boost both energy supply and energy security for all of Europe, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said at the Sofia commissioning of the Greece – Bulgaria gas interconnector on Saturday. He also said the continent needed a common solution in dealing with the power crisis.
According to MIA's Athens correspondent, Mitsotakis said the pipeline bringing natural gas from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria "will contribute to the creation of a reliable natural gas supply network."
He pointed out that the pipeline "connects European countries that share the same European values and solidarity" and said Europe needed a common strategy amid the energy crisis as well as amid the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
“A European solution, which I hope we reach during our next meetings in Prague and Brussels, will help us.
“As with the pandemic, we will need to implement a common strategy for dealing with the crisis to eliminate fragmentation and make sure we put European solidarity above all, above national interests. Greece will always support this position and this effort of the European Commission,” Mitsotakis said.
Ahead of the ceremony, the Greek PM held bilateral meetings with the Bulgaran President Rumen Radev, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. mr/
