Mitreski says parliament’s plenary most likely on Sept. 14, calls on opposition to be constructive
Skopje, 30 August 2022 (MIA) – The plenary session will most likely be held on September 14, and until then committees are to review laws that will be on the session’s agenda, SDSM parliamentary group coordinator Jovan Mitreski told a press conference on Tuesday after a coordination meeting with Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi.   He noted that a formal session will probably be held before that, which is to be addressed by a foreign president. Mitreski said the VMRO-DPMNE parliamentary group has refused to attend today’s coordination, expressing hope that this will change in the future.   “Today we made an attempt to contact the opposition, it hasn’t happened yet, the Committee on Election and Appointment Issues will most likely resume session tomorrow or day after tomorrow,” Mitreski said in response to a reporter’s question on when the Committee will resume work.   Mitreski called on chairs of committees to resume work according to the Rules of Procedure.   “All MPs as representatives of the citizens need to work with responsibility and commitment in the interest of the citizens. At a time of global challenges, the Parliament’s responsibility and the responsibility of each MP is all the more urgent. I expect every MP to contribute to a functional Parliament,” said Mitreski, adding that the parliamentary majority remains committed to work.   He called on the opposition to act constructively and responsibly rather than continue blockades.   “Instead of active and passive blockades, a functional and efficient Parliament is needed,” said Mitreski, stressing that important laws for the citizens must not be blocked.
