Skopje, 29 March 2024 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Jovan Mitreski met Friday with French Ambassador Cyril Baumgartner, the Parliament said in a press release.

Expressing satisfaction with the meeting, Speaker Mitreski highlighted the excellent cooperation between the two countries, especially cooperation on a parliamentary level.

Congratulating Mitreski on his election as Parliament Speaker, Ambassador Baumgartner agreed about the intensified dynamics of mutual cooperation. In that context, he welcomed the meetings between MPs from the Parliament of North Macedonia, the French National Assembly and Senate in recent years, as a positive trend that should continue in the future.

The Ambassador briefed the Parliament Speaker on the upcoming visit to the country by the president of the Friendship Group France - North Macedonia in the French National Assembly, Liliana Tangi, as part of the OSCE observation mission for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, reads the press release.

"Participants in the meeting particularly welcomed the holding of the second educational activity in the Parliament 'I have an Opinion - Youth Francophone Parliament,' as part of the celebration in March - the Francophonie Month, which is an exceptional event that is slowly turning into a beautiful parliamentary tradition," the press release adds.

Interlocutors exchanged views on the current parliamentary activities, the course of elections and constitution of the new parliamentary composition. General agreement was also expressed on the need to promote cooperation in culture, economy, energy and other areas of mutual interest for both countries. ssh/nn/
