Kumanovo, 25 July 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski and his Serbian counterpart Ivica Dacic visited the Tabanovce border crossing on Thursday, where they promoted the “Drive Well Rested” campaign.

“We are at the border today to lend our support and direct the public’s attention towards the preventative action that we are implementing in Macedonia and in Serbia under the title ‘Drive Well Rested’. We believe it is highly important for all of us to focus on the prevention of these unwanted events that occur from the aspect of victims etc., especially due to the fatigue of drivers during summer periods,” Toshkovski said.

Serbian Minister Dacic said they are promoting the event at the Tabanovce crossing, on Corridor X due to the huge number of tourists and passengers crossing through, not only from North Macedonia and Serbia, but also from Europe and Asia.

“We are here at a place which demonstrates how much we need good police cooperation between our countries. This is a place where the integrated border crossing is located. The goal of these activities when it comes to the border police is to facilitate the crossing of the border considering that Corridor X, is one of the main directions during the tourism season, and many people, not just nationals of North Macedonia and Serbia but also people from Europe and Asia cross through here,” Dacic said.

The two ministers underscored the importance of cooperation in every field, with Minister Toshkovski thanking his Serbian counterpart and other countries for the assistance provided in the efforts to tackle the wildfires in the country

“The solidarity which was demonstrated in the past period really means a lot to us. We have seen that the EU mechanism is efficient, but it was also shown that our good cooperation, our personal contacts that we have with our friends are extremely useful for this type of cooperation. So, I think we have to continue to work like this in the future, coordinated and with solidarity, to ensure better conditions for our citizens in every sector,” Toshkovski said.

Toshkovski will pay a two-day visit to Serbia where, he said, together with Minister Dacic they will discuss topics important for the two countries, promoting police cooperation and greater benefits for the citizens.
