Ministers Spasovski and Vulin visit fire-hit municipality near border with Serbia
Skopje, 3 August 2021 (MIA) – Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski and his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vulin visited Tuesday Staro Nagorichane, a municipality in the northern part of the country, where a wildfire has been localized and efforts are under way to prevent it from spreading.
He said that 13 wildfires were active yesterday, mainly in eastern North Macedonia.
The ministers were accompanied by Public Security Bureau Director Sasho Tasevski and municipal mayor Zhaklina Jovanovska.
Serbia on Tuesday send four helicopters to help local authorities battle blazes across the country. Two Macedonian army helicopters have been already activated.
“I’d like to thank the Republic of Serbia for setting again an example of what neighbors are and to Minister Vulin for visiting today,” Spasovski said.
Of the four Serbian helicopters, three are firefighting aircrafts and a reconnaissance helicopter. “If the situation deteriorates, we’re ready to intervene, to send our people and equipment where necessary,” Minister Vulin said.
“Only a few days after the Skopje summit, where our leaders established cooperation to create Open Balkan, today we see in practice how important it is,” he said adding the Serbian President had issued an order for assistance to North Macedonia right after speaking to PM Zoran Zaev even though Serbia was also being hit by wildfires.
The wildfires put out here, close to Serbia, he said, also means prevention from spreading onto the territory of Serbia.
“We all have to be there for each other in this region. Our assistance is always here, you can rely on us,” Minister Vulin said expressing solidarity with the people of North Macedonia.
