Skopje, 23 November 2021 (MIA) – Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski said Tuesday evening that he expects relevant institutions to react quickly and thoroughly after 45 passengers from North Macedonia were killed and 7 were left injured following a bus accident in Bulgaria. “I believe that a joint cooperation with Bulgarian institutions will produce very quickly answers to all open questions involving the bus accident on Struma highway. It will also allow for efficiency when establishing accountability,” he told a news conference. Citing Interior Ministry’s data, Spasovski said that the last time the bus had undergone technical examination was on Oct. 5, 2021. “Our country and Bulgaria have been united in mourning the victims of the bus accident and also in conducting activities to determine the cause of the accident, identify the causalities, provide assistance and treat the injured for which we are very grateful,” said Minister Spasovski. Expressing deepest condolences to the loved ones of the victims, he said the government will provide all the necessary support and announced that the government will cover expenses involving transportation of the bodies back to North Macedonia. Traffic police team as well as forensics have departed for Bulgaria, Spasovski said, and are at disposal to assist their Bulgarian colleagues.
