Minister Spasovski calls for awareness and responsibility at protests
Skopje, 7 July 2022 (MIA) – I expect all political parties to demonstrate responsibility and call for peaceful protests. Let’s all keep the nation’s dignity while preventing unrest that would result in new divisions at the expense of the citizens and the state, said Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski ahead of the protest against the French proposal scheduled for Thursday. In his call to citizens and political parties that want to exercise their right to protest, Minister Spasovski urges them to do this in a way that demonstrates democratic capacity, with due respect of the provisions related to public gatherings, and respect of the police officers who is there to ensure peace and stability. “Let me assure you that no one intends to prevent the right to peaceful protest, this is what a democracy is expected to do. Attacks aimed to cause interethnic tensions will in no way contribute in a democratic society but give democracy a serious blow,” says Spasovski. According to him, this goes against evening that “we have stood for in building our country.” “To hurt a police officer means to attack the state, the son and brother who do their job of guaranteeing the safety and security of all. I call for awareness and responsibility at protests – let reason prevail,” says Spasovski.
