Minister Murtezani meets GIZ Regional Programme Director Oberhuber

Skopje, 16 October 2024 (MIA) - Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani met Wednesday with the Regional Programme Director at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, David Oberhuber, discussing the current status of several key projects that are part of the German development cooperation.

Talks focused on the bilateral project for support to North Macedonia's EU integration process and the regional project "Regional cooperation for EU integration".

Murtezani expressed gratitude for the ongoing German support, stressing that Germany and North Macedonia nurture strong strategic bilateral relations, characterized by close political cooperation, close economic ties and dynamic cultural exchange, the Ministry of European Affairs said in a press release. 

"He pointed to the significant role that German development aid has played in North Macedonia for years, in key areas of cooperation including the rule of law, economic development and regional cooperation, especially through platforms such as the Berlin Process," reads the press release. 

Oberhuber reaffirmed GIZ's commitment to supporting North Macedonia's European path, especially through ongoing bilateral and regional projects. In that context, participants in the meeting highlighted the regional project aimed at supporting the EU integration process of the Western Balkan countries.  

Interlocutors agreed that the project represents a valuable platform for the exchange of experience and lessons learned in the process of EU accession.  

Murtezani and Oberhuber agreed that the ongoing projects are important pillars for North Macedonia's European integration, further highlighting the importance of continued cooperation between GIZ and the Ministry of European Affairs.
