Skopje, 29 August 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Justice Igor Filkov met Thursday with UNICEF Representative Lesley Miller to discuss joint future activities, challenges and opportunities for successful cooperation.

“It is exceptionally important to follow the implementation of the Law on Justice for Children and promote the capacities of all entities in the system of justice for children in the country. The new Law emphasizes the necessity of specialization of the entities, and in that direction it is essential to continue training legal professionals how to treat and protect children who are victims or witnesses of violence or crime, as well as the approach to restorative justice,” Filkov’s Office said in a press release on the meeting.  

According to the press release, activities in the coming period will focus on collecting data and statistics in line with the Law on Justice for Children, as well as greater resocialization and rehabilitation in accordance with international standards in the field.

The Ministry of Justice said it would continue to work intensely in partnership with UNICEF in the process to further strengthen the system of justice for children by promoting the legislation on legal protection.
