Skopje, 15 August 2023 (MIA) – Minister of Finance Fatmir Besimi became a full-fledged member of the global Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action on Tuesday. The Coalition represents a global initiative which brings together finance ministers from 90 countries and representatives from 26 institutional partners, said the Ministry of Finance in a press release.

The Coalition was founded in April 2019, in order to coordinate the activities of finance ministers in the direction of the implementation of the tasks undertaken with the Paris Agreement and the Helsinki Principles.

“The Coalition’s mission is fully compatible with the Growth Acceleration Plan 2022-2026, which includes the protection of the environment as one of the priority areas, alongside climate action, as well as the Fiscal Strategy 2023-2025  (with outlook to 2027), the Economic Reform Programme 2023-2025 and other strategic documents by the Government and the Ministry,” said the press release.

The Coalition aims to encourage the green transition through increased use of renewable energy sources and greater protection for the vulnerable citizens and companies, among other things. Furthermore, the Coalition is responsible for a coordinated response from the finance ministers, through larger public investments and the mobilization of significant private capital for increased adaptability and resilience to climate change. The member states of the Coalition emit 40 percent of global greenhouse gases and make up 66 percent of the global GDP.
