Minchev: Depoliticization of public administration depends on political will of ruling structure

Skopje, 27 November 2024 (MIA) - The depoliticization of public administration depends on the political will of the ruling structure. I firmly believe that this Government, led by the Prime Minister and us, as the Ministry of Public Administration, demonstrates this will on a daily basis, said Minister of Public Administration Goran Minchev on Wednesday.

“Without that political will we cannot move forward. As a Government, over the past period we have highlighted this issue as one of the most important issues. Because we currently face a partially low-quality, uneducated public administration, which causes additional issues in terms of the efficiency of the public administration. That’s why it is crucial for us to focus on the depoliticization of public administration,” the Minister told journalists after signing a Memorandum of Cooperation with his Serbian counterpart, Minister Jelena Žarić Kovačević.

Asked about the announcements of cutting staff in the state administration and administrative boards, the Minister said the legislation is still being drafted.

“As of this moment I can’t say how many administrative boards will be affected. The working group at the Ministry which is hard at work on this legislation will reach the final stage of the draft legislation towards the end of the month. Then, once we have the final drafts, they will be made available to all citizens and submitted to government procedure, and hopefully they will be in Parliament around the beginning of January,” the Minister said.

The Minister assessed the cuts as a short pilot project that will only focu on institutions or bodies that are a part of the Ministry of Public Administration or related to it.

“We want to put our finger on the pulse of these institutions, but, of course, we shouldn’t overlook the social aspect that we have with the unions, we should avoid causing additional revolt in an already difficult situation with the wages,” Minchev said.
