Mickoski: We cannot pretend that constitutional name is not part of the legal system

Mickoski: We cannot pretend that constitutional name is not part of the legal system

Skopje, 19 June 2024 (MIA) - My homeland is Macedonia, and when making statements my use of the name will not be different, but as a government we will have to respect the laws and the Constitution. We cannot pretend that it is not part of the legal system, VMRO-DPMNE leader and PM-designate Hristijan Mickoski said on Wednesday.

"No, my position has not changed. I say Macedonia all the time, and I will continue to say Macedonia. We, as a government, cannot ask citizens to respect the Constitution and the laws, while we calculate and have double standards," said Mickoski who attended an event in Tetovo.

He noted that he has said before that he would not use the adjective, but as a Government they would have to respect the laws and the Constitution regarding the use of the constitutional name.

"You can see it in today's statement as well, and it will continue in the future, because how I call my homeland is my elementary human right. It is Macedonia, and it will remain Macedonia, but at the same time as a Government we must respect the laws and the Constitution, the Rules of Procedure in the Parliament were changed last year as a result of the Jean Monnet process and as a result of those changes, which is a legally binding act, it is the part that refers to the oath given by the Prime Minister, the members of the Government, the Parliament Speaker, the Vice-Speakers, the President of the Constitutional Court..." said Mickoski.

He pointed out that he cannot have double standards, "receiving and submitting laws with the adjective that is part of the constitutional name, having institutional communication under the constitutional name, running after passports and personal documents as certain politicians sunbathing in Egypt and our southern neighbor, and then pretend that it is not part of our legal system."

"But my personal use, when making statements, I have said this before, will never be different from what it is today. My homeland is Macedonia, and it will remain Macedonia," said Mickoski.
