Mickoski: VMRO-DPMNE's position on amnesty law is clear

Skopje, 2 November 2023 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE's position on the amnesty law is clear. The question is whether there is any misunderstanding between SDSM MPs and the party's leadership, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said after the Parliament rejected the need to approve the law at Thursday's session.

"After the law passed the government procedure, it was on the agenda of a government session. This could mean that Spasovski, Kovachevski, Marichikj, Petrovska, Grkovska and the rest of the SDSM voted in favor of the law at the government session, but now the MPs say that they will not vote in favor. Perhaps the question now should be whether there is any misunderstanding between the MPs and the leadership of SDSM," said Mickoski.

With 66 votes against, 17 votes in favor and 3 abstentions, the Government's proposal on approving the law on amnesty in a fast-track procedure failed to receive support in Parliament on Thursday.

Mickoski also reiterated VMRO-DPMNE's position that the presidential and the parliamentary elections should be held on the same date.

The VMRO-DPMNE leader told reporters that if the ruling party decides not to consult the opposition and not to have consensus on the date of the elections and the way they will be organized, then the responsibility will be theirs.

"Our position is clear - that we should not trouble the citizens twice just because someone believes that politically it suits them better to hold separate elections, i.e. hold presidential elections in March and parliamentary elections in June, thinking that they will create euphoria and that this will help them achieve a better result in the parliamentary elections. No one has the right to spend public money in order to realize their own ambitions, and that is why we insist that the elections be held together," said Mickoski.
