Mickoski: VMRO-DPMNE has agreement in principle over joint participation in elections with parties leaving ruling coalition

Skopje, 27 March 2024 (MIA) – We have an agreement in principle for a joint participation in the parliamentary elections and we expect that later on, on the basis on that agreement, we will function as a future government, said VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski on Wednesday asked to comment on the parties leaving the ruling coalition.

Mickoski said it’s not up to him to say why the leaders of these parties made such a decision.

“You should ask them that question, I’m not able to answer in their name. We have principled talks and negotiations and a joint agreement in principle over participation in the coming parliamentary elections, and we expect that in the future, on the basis of that agreement, we will function as a future government. Regarding the motivation and the reason [for their departure from the ruling coalition], maybe they could provide an answer. I would like this to be the fact they recognized good things in our program and decided to accept it. There were also those who negotiated with us, we didn’t manage to reach an agreement, they will either perform independently or stay with the current ruling parties,” said Mickoski in answer to media questions following a meeting with the leadership of the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia.

The VMRO-DPMNE leader described DUI’s newly formed coalitions as an “unsuccessful political maneuver”.

“DUI should say why they are doing this. If you ask me, I believe they are trying to carry out a political maneuver in order to mitigate their defeat at the coming elections to the consolidated Albanian opposition. I don’t think this move will be successful judging by the people who are joining that coalition, but time and the voters will tell. Maybe my interpretation is wrong,” said Mickoski.
