Mickoski says will continue to ‘send messages’ to judges and prosecutors calling them ‘to do their job’

Skopje, 4 December 2024 (MIA) - Anyone who doesn’t justify the trust they have been given, regardless of their role in society, should leave, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Wednesday when quizzed about the resignation of the President of the Judicial Council Vesna Dameva.

Mickoski said he would continue to “send messages” to the prosecutors and judges calling on them “to do their job”.

“This process should be dynamic, anyone who doesn’t meet expectations should leave, regardless of their role in society. I believe that this Judicial Council, the judiciary and prosecution, with the public trust that they currently have, failed [to meet expectations],” said the Prime Minister, adding he expects them to focus more on dealing with crime and corruption.

Asked if the State Public Prosecutor “got the message” after he ordered a reorganization within the Prosecutor’s Office, the PM said, “it isn’t characteristic of the current Government to prosecute and judge unlike some past governments”, but he said it would continue to send messages that everyone should do their job.

“All I did was send numerous messages in the public and I will continue to send them to these two institutions, both the prosecutors and judges, to do their job, to avoid being partners to criminals regardless of whether those are political or real street criminals, and to instead fight crime and corruption. I expect them to start doing their job and justifying the wages they are being paid by the Macedonian citizens, which, by the way, aren’t low,” Mickoski said.
