Mickoski, retailers agree to prevent price hikes

Skopje, 11 March 2026 (MIA) — Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski met with retail representatives Wednesday, securing an agreement to maintain "fair prices" and prevent a new wave of consumer cost increases, he wrote in a social media post.

Following the meeting, Mickoski wrote that the state was prepared to intervene if businesses engaged in price gouging, though he noted the government prefers not to disrupt the market unless necessary.

"We are actively monitoring the situation and will not allow discrepancies and profiteering," he wrote.

Earlier Wednesday, talking to the press ahead of the meeting, the prime minister said protecting the living standards of citizens also protected the business community. He also noted that supply chains for oil and derivatives remained stable with sufficient reserves and inflation was the lowest in the region.

"The situation in the country is absolutely normal, we will see what happens next," he said, adding that "the beginning of the year is promising according to all indicators." mr/
