Mickoski: No MP of VMRO-DPMNE-led coalition to vote for constitutional amendments

Skopje, 22 September 2023 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE’s parliamentary group and the coalition remains on principled position that there will be no constitutional amendments under Bulgarian dictate, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said late Friday in an interview with Alsat TV.

“Constitutional amendments will not happen. Not a single MP from the VMRO-DPMNE-led coalition will vote, and this was seen at the session on August 18, when 44 MPs voted against the agenda. It clearly shows that they do not have a two-thirds majority, because if they were sure that they had even one, they would have gone to the end of that parliamentary session, I guess it would have failed and after that, they would have demanded the resignation of Hristijan Mickoski. Mickoski is a problem, because he does not negotiate with political criminals and various groups, neither for political amnesties nor for political crimes nor for tenders because we have a principled position,” he said.

According to him, the constitutional amendments are the most humiliating part for the country, and that is why they do not support them.

“Because if something like that happened, then it would be bad for Macedonia because you hear the messages coming from Sofia, and even from today's newly elected European Commissioner who clearly stated what the obligations of Macedonia are contained in the protocols. Moreover, the protocols contain serious commitments that have a clear goal, which is the assimilation of the Macedonian people,” Mickoski said.

Speaking about the public quarrels with the former leader of the party, Mickovski said that what he had to say about the "coalition between Ali Ahmeti, parts of the structure of SDSM and Nikola Gruevski" he said publicly.

Asked about today's meeting with former Interior Minister Gordana Jankulovska, Mickoski said that it was a regular meeting with a dear friend.

I consider that the meeting should be seen as that no one is forgotten, Mickoski said, adding that Jankulovska is a victim of, as he says, political persecution and torture.
