Skopje, 8 December 2024 (MIA) - There is considerable frustration and disappointment among Macedonian citizens with the European Union, but it remains our strategic goal because there is nothing better for us as a country at the moment, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told a press conference on Sunday.
In response to a reporter's question on where the country sees economic prospects in the new global world and in a situation in which it is blocked from joining the EU, Mickoski said that "as a small country, we will seek our own interests" and "our strategic commitment is to be a dedicated member of the NATO Alliance" where, he noted, the country is quite committed with its active role.
"We remain committed to work, to doing our homework, reforms, the economy – that is what this Government remains committed to. In international politics, there is an unwritten rule that the big ones do what they can, and the small ones suffer what they must. We will follow closely, carefully, and we will try to anticipate the next steps in the development of events on a global level. We have our own connections in Washington, in Brussels, and everywhere else where necessary. We receive information, analyse and take action, guided exclusively by one goal – the interest of Macedonian citizens," said Mickoski.
