Mickoski - Harms: Opening negotiations for possible investment by more foreign companies on Macedonian market

Skopje, 15 October 2024 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski presented to the German Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday the government's economic plans and plans for investments in energy and infrastructure, as well as opportunities for cooperation and investments of German companies that are already present on the Macedonian market. In addition to the companies already present on the domestic market in the country, new foreign companies have also expressed interest in investing here, and the PM announced that negotiations for their possible investment will be opened very soon.

"I can say that we had a very open, honest and productive meeting with the representatives of the German Chamber of Commerce, the section responsible for investments in Eastern and Southeastern Europe. A large part of the companies that attended this meeting are already present with their production plants in our country. There were also such companies that unequivocally expressed their interest to invest in our country and be present on the Macedonian market. We exchanged details for further contact and I think that very soon today we will open the negotiations for their possible investment. Our goal as the Government from the very beginning was to improve the investment climate and increase the investment activity of companies, not only domestic but foreign ones as well. I believe that this in Germany is an exceptional and sufficient opportunity, given that our trade exceeds EUR 5 billion, thousands of our citizens work in companies owned by German investors, and we as the Government have both an obligation and a responsibility to continue promotion in I would say the biggest European economic power. Promotion of investment opportunities and capacities. Today we have done it in several areas including services, tourism, energy, manufacturing, etc. and I believe we had an extremely positive meeting. I also believe that after this meeting, to be more precise, I'm sure we'll have several new investors in the coming period," said PM Mickoski.

Satisfaction with the goals of the Macedonian Government, aimed at increasing the investment activities of foreign companies on the Macedonian market, was also expressed by Michael Harms, who pointed out that the discussion was effective.

"I must say that the discussion was very effective and hopeful, we had a clear impression of that, because the Prime Minister said that this Government is really business-oriented. We discussed issues related to energy and infrastructure in particular, as well as pharmaceuticals and digitalization," said Harms.

The Macedonian side pointed out that the government's priority is economic stabilization of the country and friendly relations with business communities, opening as many jobs as possible, and helping Macedonian citizens to have a well-paid job and a better standard in order to stay at home, instead of moving out of the country.
